Meditation Practice (Every Sunday 10:00 to 12:00 noon)

The Edmonton Meditation group has been meeting regularly for over 40 years each week to practice Serene Reflection Meditation.  Currently,  we are meeting every Sunday morning from 10am to 12 non at a local community league.  No previous experience is necessary.  All are welcome.  We strongly encourage all newcomers to contact us first so we can ensure you have a great first visit.

Our typical schedule is:

1000 - 1045 Serene Reflection Mediation with 20 minutes of seated meditation, 5 minutes of walking meditation, then another 20 minutes of seated meditaiton

1045 - 1115 Ceremony with Bows, Merit Offering, Scriptures, and more bows

1115 - 1200 Coffee/Tea time while listening to a recorded teaching from a master in our order.

Learn to Meditate

We typically hold learn to meditate sessions on Saturday afternoons in the Program Room of the Strathcona Branch of the Edmonton Public Library, 8331 104 Street, Edmonton (second floor)

Everyone is welcome to attend. Registration is not strictly necessary, but does help us plan and organize better.

The Introduction to Meditation sessions consist of orientation to our practice, the basics of Buddhism, meditation instruction, and a brief meditation period. The sessions take roughly 2 hours. There is no fixed cost for the session. Our meditation group operates on a dana (offering) basis. Dana can be made in any amount at any time but it is not a requirement, so there is no pressure at all to give.

If you plan on attending, please wear non-restrictive comfortable clothing. We generally try to stay away from wearing shorts, or really bright or distracting clothing (i.e. large logos or slogans) to the meditation hall.

NEXT SESSION: none scheduled

Retreats

2x or 3x a year, the Edmonton Meditation group invites a monk in our tradition to visit Edmonton to lead a day-long retreat with multiple periods of meditation, dharma talks, and quiet contemplation.  There is no fee but we do accept dana (donations) to help cover the costs of renting a facility and for coffee & lunch breaks.

Next Retreat: none scheduled

Festivals

Some Sunday mornings over the year, we celebrate specific days in the best ways we can.  Some festivals are celebrated at Lions Gate Buddhist Priory in Lytton, BC.  Before you visit, please contact.  If you want to fully experience all of these festivals, you will need to travel to Shasta Abbey in California or Throssel Hole Abbey in England.
